Vessel aground (fog)
Three distinct bell strokes, rapid ringing for 5 seconds, then three more strokes, every minute — “stuck – stuck – stuck” around the anchor signal.
You hear: 3 separate bell strokes, then rapid ringing of the bell for about 5 seconds, then 3 separate bell strokes.
Meaning
“A vessel aground shall give the bell signal and if required the gong signal prescribed in paragraph (g) of this Rule and shall, in addition, give three separate and distinct strokes on the bell immediately before and after the rapid ringing of the bell.” Vessels of 100 m or more also sound the gong aft. She may in addition sound an appropriate whistle signal.
