Overtaking agreement (International)
Prolonged, short, prolonged, short — Morse “C” — sounded by the vessel about to be overtaken to say “agreed, come past.”
You hear: 1 prolonged blast, then 1 short blast, then 1 prolonged blast, then 1 short blast.
Meaning
Agreement: the vessel about to be overtaken sounds “one prolonged, one short, one prolonged and one short blast, in that order” — the Morse letter C (“affirmative”). If in doubt she sounds the danger signal instead.
Under Inland Rules the vessel about to be overtaken simply answers with a signal similar to the proposal (one or two short blasts) if in agreement.
