A buoy glyph with a mooring ring marks a permanent mooring — not a navigation mark at all.
What it means
The mooring-buoy glyph (a buoy body with a ring or cross above) marks a permanent mooring laid for ships or small craft.
Why it matters
Heavy ground tackle — chains and sinkers — radiates from a mooring buoy on the bottom, so never anchor close to one. Picking one up uninvited may also earn you a large, fast neighbor.
